Children and Youth Services

CICS provides programs and activities for immigrant children and youth in both Toronto and York Region. The following are our programs in Toronto.

For services in York Region, please click here.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

The After School Program provides learning support to new immigrant students from grades 5-10 looking to strengthen their academic performance. With life skills training as a part of this program, students can not only further develop their understanding of Canadian social culture and of how they fit into that culture.

SATURDAY ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

For all students looking to take their learning to the next level, this program offers enrichment classes following the Ontario curriculum for English (Grades 1-10) and Math (Grades 1-12). Classes are conducted in English by experienced teachers.

Pre-employment Training
L.I.F.T. (Launch Into Future Training)

This pre-employment program aims to equip new immigrant youth with the on-demand job-search skills and employment information needed to make informed decisions on educational and career choices.

Life Skills Training

It’s not enough to know what’s in the book. To make your mark in the world, you need to know how to apply what you know well. Topics include: intercultural communication, team-building, conflict resolution, problem-solving, cultural sensitivity, etc. We provide these workshops at various locations and at different times. If you’re an educator interested in bringing our services to your school and/or organization, let’s talk!

Leadership Training

Leadership training takes youth deeper into life skills training. This interactive training puts the focus on youth being leaders in their own life and in the communities they belong to, building on their strengths, passion and confidence.

Day Camps + Special Events

Camp! Camp! Camp! Every year during March Break and Summer Break, we have a variety camp programs aimed at helping our children and youth remain active, learn more about themselves, each other and the world around them in an exciting and fun atmosphere.

MARCH BREAK CAMP

Thank you for your interest in our March Break Camp 2010 Program. We need as much help as we can to get the word out that this fabulous program is available in the area to kids from grades 1-6!

We’re very excited about this year’s program as new arts workshop in addition to our arts & crafts and sports activities. We have invited a break-dance artist from UNITY (www.unitycharity.com) to teach a break-dance workshop to our participants in grades 5-6. UNITY is a youth led charity dedicated to showing youth how using positive forms of artistic self-expression leads to making positive life choices. We will be taking the kids trampolining this year! Under the instruction and supervision of an experienced trampolining instructor, they will jump into a new sport!

Our theme this year is community. The activities and discussions they will take part in are designed in such a way so that they will have the opportunity to think about how they fit into their community and what positive choices they can make to add to their community’s richness.

SUMMER CAMP

Stay tuned for more information about our upcoming summer camp programs. Remember to register early to get a spot!

Youth Volunteering

Everyone has the power to make a positive difference. If you’re interested in discovering yourself more, learning more and getting more involved in the community, get in touch with us! This is a rigorous volunteering program that will give participants valuable feedback so that they may continue to grow. Let’s talk about what you’re interested in. We’re eager to match you with opportunities that will enrich your experience and at the same time build and sharpen your skills.

Parental Support

In supporting our children and youth we desire to work in partnership with people who play a significant role in their lives. We will set up group discussion, panels and workshops where professionals, parents and guardians can share their advice, support and empower each other to take on contemporary issues.
