Our settlement services are provided to newcomers, immigrants and refugees in addition to specialized and customized services to women, youth and seniors. Settlement supports include the following services:
- Needs assessment
- Orientation to local environment
- Completing forms
- Interpretation and translation
- Information and referral
- Group sessions for social and networking support
- Linkages with the community and resources.
Services are available in all CICS offices located in Toronto and York Region, in a member of participating schools in North York area, and in four public libraries located in Scarborough and York Region
Areas of Support:
We provide support in accessing services in the following areas:
Housing, health, education, employment, labour, welfare & benefits, taxation, citizenship, business, transportation, recreation, immigration and more
Language:
Settlement workers in CICS offices: English, French, Cantonese, Hindi, Mandarin, Punjabi, Tamil and Urdu and all other languages with the presence of interpreters;
Settlement workers in schools: English, Arabic, Cantonese, Dari, Farsi, Hindi, Korean, Kurdish, Mandarin, Russian, Sindhi, Spanish, Tamil, Ukrainian and Urdu.
Settlement workers in libraries: English, Bengali, Cantonese, Mandarin, Tamil and Urdu
Process:
One-to-one service – this is an individual or family based service to answer enquiries, help interpret and translate information and documents, provide information on community resources and facilitate access to services.
- Drop in to the service locations during service hours. First come first served basis.
- Make an appointment by calling the offices to arrange a meeting with a settlement counselor.
- Call the Settlement Information Hotline to listen to 24-hour recorded settlement information in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian and Tamil.
Group Session - this is a group service where information of specific topic is delivered or facilitated by qualified professionals.
