Job Title: External LINC Supply Instructor

Team/Unit: LINC

Location: Online + in person at various sites of LINC classes in Toronto and York Region. Qualified candidates will be invited to join our pool of LINC external supply instructors to be contacted for occasional supply assignments

Level: LINC levels 1 to 5

Hours: · Day sessions: Monday to Friday, as well as Saturday,· Evening sessions: Monday to Thursday · Saturdays and some holidays

Salary: $38.70 per hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provide learners with language instruction at the LINC/Benchmark level(s) assigned, and in accordance with the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLBs), LINC curriculum, and PBLA guidelines;

· Conduct lessons in a blended model (online and in-person) using program assigned platforms for the online component (Avenue.ca, Zoom, and other web-based teaching tools);

· Provide an instructional format and lesson plans responsive to newcomer needs and adult learning styles;

· Where appropriate, provide feedback to individual learners through ongoing assessments, assignments or testing as needed;

· Adhere to the assigned class schedule and work cooperatively with administrative staff and regular instructors to maintain program quality;

· Develop and maintain an inclusive and equitable classroom atmosphere, where participants are welcome and engaged in learning;

· Ensure a high level of student attendance and active participation;

· Abide by the agency’s support and supervision model by supplying all required materials and working closely with program administrators;

· Observe the policy concerning student attendance and submit accurate student attendance in a timely manner and monthly narrative reports (if applicable) according to program requirements;

· Assist in program related activities and/or tasks assigned by the program manager;

· In the course of service delivery, assist learners in reaching the LINC program objective of facilitating the social, economic and political integration of adult newcomers into Canadian society through English language instruction.

Qualifications:

· Canadian university degree or equivalent;

· Current TESL Ontario Certification;

· Experience in teaching English to adults required;

· Proven ability and experience in teaching high as well as low level LINC or Adult ESL classes a strong asset;

· Good understanding of language training needs of newcomer communities;

· Strong knowledge of and extensive experience using the CLB 2012, LINC Curriculum Guidelines, and Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA);

· Current knowledge of task-based, communicative and learner-centered approaches to teaching adults;

· Confidence and experience in virtual program delivery, including using online platforms such as Avenue.ca, and video conferencing tools such as Zoom and/or Big Blue Button;

· Experience in curriculum development for specialized classes addressing newcomer’s needs a strong asset;

· Proven experience in team work;

· Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills;

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

· Ability to work in a multicultural environment;

· Excellent computer skills and ability to use online resources;

· Vulnerable sector police reference check is mandatory.
