Community Food Program Assistant
|
Summary of the Position:
This position supports the Community Food Program Worker in the delivery and administration of the Community Food Programs, including the greenhouse, community garden plots, seed exchange, and food bank. These programs provide culturally appropriate urban food gardening resources such as seedlings, container growing kits, knowledge-sharing opportunities, volunteer support, and networking initiatives for low-income and marginalized adults, youth, and seniors in Scarborough.
The garden programs operate daily, while the food bank runs one day per week. The candidate will assist with various programs, including but not limited to seed exchanges, garden workshops, kitchen workshops, senior and youth garden volunteer clubs, and more. These programs engate over 15 community groups and include hands-on urban farming and food procurement activities, as well as in-person educational programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of community education and engagement materials.
- Lead summer youth volunteer engagement activities such as garden work and volunteer coordination.
- Oversee the management of the composting system.
- Support harvesting, planting, and maintenance of the community garden and greenhouse.
- Maintain accurate records of food waste and harvest data for the food bank and garden.
- Perform administrative tasks, including volunteer registration, participation documentation, co-facilitating group activities, and program upkeep.
- Assist in food procurement and sorting for the food bank, including packing non-perishable hampers, checking the quality of fresh produce, and organizing protein food packages.
- Contribute to outreach, planning, and implementation of online/social media engagement and educational materials.

Terms and Conditions:
· Salary: $17.20 per hour
· Hours of work: 35 hours per week
· No. of weeks: 8
· Anticipated Start Date / End Date: June 09 to August 01, 2025
