Deadline : 18 June 2025

 GENERAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS RECRUITMENT

We are seeking to recruit new volunteer Board members – individuals who wish to donate their time and energy to contribute to the growth and development of an exciting multi-services organization.

About the organization

The Centre for Immigrant and Community Services (CICS) is a not-for-profit organization and registered charity with a mission to empower newcomers in settling and integrating as contributing members of Canadian society through diverse, professional and innovative services. Our vision is to see fully integrated newcomers who participate in and contribute to all spheres of Canadian society. Our success stems from our core values of compassion, inclusion and collaboration.

Areas of Expertise we are looking for:

Cybersecurity; Data / network security;

Fundraising and Resource Development;

Marketing or Digital Marketing;

PR or Media Relations;

Accounting or CPA designations.

Director Criteria

The Board is active and engaged, providing oversight and direction to the affairs of the Organization as well as guidance to the Executive Director. The Board meets about 6-7 times per year. Each director participates on at least one committee or working group in addition to attendance at Board meetings. All directors are expected to support the Organization financially each year in ways that they feel personally comfortable – which may be as simple as sharing the magic of the Organization with friends by inviting them to events or facilitating introductions to their network.

The qualities of ideal CICS board directors include the following:

 1)     Commitment and interest — they are available, invest time and resources to understand and advance the organization and are passionate about the organization’s success.  They take responsibility for their own education as directors and participate in educational  opportunities.

2)     Objectivity and independent-mindedness — they form their own judgments and opinions, and are not biased towards any particular interest or stakeholder.

3)     Integrity — they have personal integrity, are trustworthy, and behave ethically.

4)     Informed judgment — they focus on the important issues and base their decisions and actions on sound principles and common sense.

5)     Perspective — they have broad knowledge and experience that they apply to discussions and decisions.

6)     Analytical — they have well-developed conceptual thinking and problem-solving skills.

7)     Courage — they have the courage to ask tough questions and to voice their opinions.

The dynamics of a board is as important as the skills, experience and knowledge of its members. Therefore directors should have the interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the commitment required to work effectively with others.

Resumes and cover letters are to be sent to CICS by email: info@cicscanada.com by June 18, 2025.

We would like to thank all applicants but regret that we are only able to contact those individuals whose backgrounds best match the requirements for the role.
