Employment Term: 35 hours per week until March 31, 2021; 24.5 hours per week thereafter
Job Title: Youth Worker/Settlement Worker (Women’s Support Focus)– Farsi-speaking
Locations: Unit 8 - 7220 Kennedy Road & Unit 2 - 5284 Highway 7 East, Markham
Weekly Hours: 35 hours – may be required to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends ad some holidays
Salary Range: $44,472.00 to $51,469.00 (Under review)
Current Rate: $24.44 per hour


Responsibilities:
• Provide settlement information and support to newcomers and their families, particularly women and youth, through individual interviews and organization of group sessions, support groups, or workshops on a wide range of settlement issues;
• Provide case management service to newcomers, particular to immigrant women and their families; and to immigrant/at risk/low income youths;
• Provide needs assessment, information and orientation services to newcomers with women’s focus in particular; and youth to facilitate adjustment in the community and the settlement process;
• Facilitate access to needed services and resources where there are barriers due to language, culture and race by providing interpretation or translation;
• Outreach and deliver / facilitate settlement workshops based on developed materials for this targeted group of clients;
• Establish partnership and work with external organizations to provide services/programs in supporting this group of clients;
• Keep the team updated on all new information and be cooperative in maintenance of information by tracking government policies and community resources in order to effectively inform and refer clients;
• Respond to clients' enquiries in a timely manner and ensure accurate information is available to clients for accessing services and programs;
• Prepare and submit accurate and timely statistical and progress reports as required;
• Establish and maintain excellent working relationship and communication with internal and external groups;
• Recruit and train volunteers in supporting the planning and implementation of programs;
• Attend internal/external meetings as required and provide summaries to Manager;
• Carry out any other duties or tasks as assigned from time to time by the manager.

Qualification and Requirements:
• Canadian University degree or equivalent, in Social Sciences, preferably Social Work, and at least two years of related work experience;
• Excellent knowledge of cultural, economic and social needs of immigrant, refugee and their families, including the settlement and integration issues faced by immigrant youth and women;
• Excellent knowledge of government and community resources for immigrant women and youth; excellent client service skills;
• Be innovative and skilled in program design, activity organization and community outreach;
• Possessing special talents and excellent youth programming skills;
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with youth and parents;
• Accomplished skills in life skills facilitation, performing arts, sports, etc.;
• Excellent communication, inter-personal and problem-solving skills;
• Proficiency in written and spoken English, as well as in a second language commonly used by clientele – Farsi;
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment;
• Ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite, graphic software and social media that facilitate work, communication and online promotion;
• Confident and experienced in virtual service delivery is a definite asset;
• Certified Information and Referral Specialist (CIRS) an asset;
• Flexible; willing to work some evenings and/or weekends;
• Willing to travel between community locations in York region;
• Valid Ontario driver license and use of car is a strong asset;
• A Vulnerable Sector Screening is mandatory.
