Job Details:   Qualified candidates will be invited to join our pool of LINC external supply instructors to be contacted for occasional supply assignments.
We have full-time and part-time supply work at various locations in Scarborough and Markham.
Day sessions:   Monday to Friday, as well as Saturday
Evening sessions:   Monday to Thursday
LINC levels:   1 - 7

Responsibilities:

  • Provide learners with language instruction according to the LINC curriculum at the LINC/Benchmark level(s) assigned;
  • Provide an instructional format and lesson content responsive to newcomer needs and adult learning styles;
  • Where appropriate, provide feedback to individual learners through ongoing assessments, assignments or testing as needed;
  • Adhere to the assigned class schedule and work cooperatively with administrative staff and regular teachers to maintain program quality;
  • Abide by the agency's support and supervision model by supplying all required materials and working closely with program administrators;
  • Submit reports according to program requirements if needed;
  • In the course of service delivery, assist learners in reaching the LINC program objective of facilitating the social, economic and political integration of adult newcomers into Canadian society through English language instruction;
  • Where needed, conduct ongoing assessment of LINC students in accordance with Canadian Language Benchmarks and PBLA guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Canadian university degree or equivalent;
  • Current Ontario TESL Certification;
  • Experience in teaching English to adults required;
  • Proven ability and experience in teaching high as well as low level LINC or Adult ESL classes a strong asset;
  • Good understanding of language training needs of newcomer communities;
  • Knowledge of the CLB 2012, LINC Curriculum Guidelines, and Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA);
  • Current knowledge of the communicative and learner-centered approach to teaching adults;
  • Proven experience in team work;
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent communication skills in English;
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment;
  • Ability to work with computers, and participate in communication through Outlook;
  • Proof of a negative vulnerable sector police reference check.
