2020 Summer Experience Program (SEP)

Funded by the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries (MHSTCI), CICS is recruiting candidates to fill the following SEP position:
Position Title: Youth Program Assistant (Ref # SEP-01)
Location: Immigrant Youth Centre (IYC) – 5284 Hwy 7 East, Unit 2, Markham, ON L3P 1B9
Salary: $14 per hour
Hours: approximate 20 hours per week for 12 weeks
Anticipated start date/end date: July 13, 2020 to Oct 3, 2020
Applicant MUST meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Must be currently enrolled in a secondary, or post-secondary institution or within six months of graduation and have reached the age of 15 and not yet reached the age of 25 upon the start of the employment;
• Must be residents of Ontario during the period of employment;
• Must be eligible to work in Canada and have a Social Insurance Number (SIN);
• Foreign students are not eligible.
Major Responsibilities: (Note: Since on-site program delivery may not be in place due to the COVID-19 situation, a large part of the work will be carried out via off-site arrangement)
• Using various digital/social media and online platforms to keep abreast the needs of and extend outreach to multicultural immigrant/at risk/low income youth in the York Region area;
• Use established research practices and reliable data to remotely keep the team updated on all new immigration related information and collaborate by tracking government policies and community resources relevant to the population served in order to effectively inform and refer clients;
• During online workshops and programs - monitor program activities, attendance and youth in need of support during/after program time; including connecting with new participants to ensure their registration package is completed in full;
• Using various digital/social media platforms, phone calls and emails - establish and maintain working relationships and communication with external groups to promote the mission, values, programs and services of the CICS Immigrant Youth Centre;
• Assist the team to conduct research on resources to develop strategies to encourage youth participation and feedback on Immigrant Youth Centre programs and services including the creation of a client survey and other client feedback forms.
• Assist the APM and Youth Workers in researching, coordinating and promoting a community workshop (topic to be decided) related to immigration, settlement, and the immigrant community.
