Job Title:

Centre Camp Counsellor 

 Tasks and Responsibilities:          

The camp counselor mainly assists our youth settlement counsellors in facilitating in-person summer camps for newcomer children and youth aged 6 to 18 at CICS Newmarket Centre and the five Welcome Centres in York Region. The main tasks and responsibilities include:

 

·         Collaborating and assisting youth settlement counsellors with the facilitation of camp activities, such as arts and crafts, group projects and outdoor activities

·         Creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for newcomer children and youth, fostering positive social interactions and friendships.

·         Encouraging campers to actively participate in camp activities and promoting teamwork among campers.

·         Playing a key role in logistical tasks, including setup, cleanup, and equipment management.

·         Reporting any incidents, accidents, or behavioral concerns to the youth settlement counsellors and program manager in a timely manner

·         Supporting the youth settlement counsellors in data entry, compiling the statistical report, conducting client surveys, and preparing program materials.

·         Assisting in outreach activities to promote programs and summer camps.

·         Supporting the operation of our Centre and other programs tailored towards immigrant women and seniors

Required Qualifications:  Post-Secondary          

Language required for the position:  English, Cantonese and Mandarin

Terms and Conditions:

  • Salary: $16.55 per hour
  • Hours of work: 35 hours per week
  • No. of weeks: 9
  • Anticipated Start Date / End Date: June 24 to August 23, 2024

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and;
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations;
  • International students are not eligible.
