Job Title:

Social Worker - Welcome Centre

 Tasks and Responsibilities:          

CICS is a not-for-profit organization and registered charity with a mission to empower newcomers in settling

and integrating as contributing members of Canadian society through diverse, professional and innovative

programs and services. We work to enable newcomers to fully integrate, participate and contribute to all

spheres of Canadian society. This Summer Social Worker position mainly supports our Settlement team in delivering one-on-one case management services and group programs to immigrants. The main tasks and responsibilities include:

 

·         Assist the settlement worker and youth worker in organizing support groups and events for immigrant children, youth, women, seniors and their families to enhance their life skills, coping mechanisms, social support, and emotional well-being.

·         Plan, organize and support youth workers with the facilitation of summer camp activities, such as arts and crafts, games, group projects and outdoor activities.

·         Create a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for newcomer children and youth who participate in our summer programming, fostering positive social interactions and friendships.

·         Assist the settlement worker in providing case management services and supportive counseling to newcomer women, seniors and their families.

·         Assist the settlement worker in conducting needs assessments and providing information and orientation services to women, seniors and newcomers to facilitate community adjustment and the settlement process.

·         Conduct outreach activities with community partners and schools to promote our programs and explore collaboration opportunities.

·         Facilitate access to needed services, resources, and referrals in the community by providing interpretation or translation where there are barriers due to language, culture, and race.

Required Qualifications:  Post-Secondary          

Language required for the position:  English, Cantonese and Mandarin

Terms and Conditions:

  • Salary: $17.20 per hour
  • Hours of work: 35 hours per week
  • No. of weeks: 8
  • Anticipated Start Date / End Date: June 16 to August 8, 2025

 Applicant MUST meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and;
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations;
  • International students are not eligible.
