Position: Volunteer Art Workshop Facilitator/Instructor/Tutor (in-person, Chinese language speaker)
Program Are and Description: Settlement & Integration Services (SIS) – Seniors Program; Planning and leading seniors (55+) in art workshops with fun art skills you are good at, such as painting, drawing, calligraphy, knitting/crocheting, etc. or some art craft you have and definitely please let us know.
Vacancy: 1 for each artistic activity
Location: CICS Head Office, 2330 Midland Avenue, Scarborough, ON, M1S 5G5
Starting date: (to be determined)
Ending date: On-going
Time commitment: Once a week; 1.5 hours per shift (can be discussed with volunteer’ schedule and availability)
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years and older;
- Provide valid Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) which obtained in the most recent 12 month;
- Knowledge of basic art techniques (e.g., painting, drawing, crafts);
- Experience teaching senior beginners;
- Able to adapt activities to different skill levels and abilities;
- Organize and be able to prepare materials in advance;
- Patient, clear communicator, and approachable;
- Cantonese and/or Mandarin speaking is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and prepare simple art activities for seniors;
- Teach step-by-step artistic techniques in a clear way;
- Create a safe, fun, and comfortable environment;
- Adapt activities to seniors’ needs and abilities;
- Encourage social interaction and creativity.
